Lauren Makk is one of our fav designers on and off camera. Her charisma on the popular TV show Trading Spaces launched a full design career championing high style that’s actually accessible and loads of DIY know-how. We’re thrilled to see her using Board!! Watch the video above to find out her favorite feature…
How do you begin the design process?
I design around inspiration and I always have my clients start by utilizing a Pinterest board. I find that I’m a very visual learner and I like for other people to get in on the design process because I find that other people are very visual as well. And a lot of times, they’ll say, “Oh, I really love cottage!” but they don’t even really know what that means. And then they end up really liking midcentury modern. So it helps for them to describe a look with pictures. For me, the design process is really evolutionary. I always like to start the process with what solutions I’m trying to solve and the client’s likes.
Is there a most important tip, trick or piece of advice that someone shared with you along your journey?
One the greatest tips I ever received was from my first boss who said, “The last 10% is the hardest part.” And I have never forgotten that because it’s so true. We spend a lot of time working through the design from its conception and you think that’s the hard part but in reality it’s the last 10% when you’re taking off all of the stickers, fluffing the pillows just right, making the bed look great, making the curtains look right and all of the other details. The last 10 truly is the hardest part because that’s where the magic happens.
What is your favorite tool/feature in Board and why?
My favorite tool in Morpholio Board is without a doubt the Pinterest Portal. I can import all of my Pinterest looks right into my board without having to go back and forth between cutting them out and pasting them in. That feature is so unique. As I said, as a designer, I always have my clients build out a Pinterest board and it is such an easy way to communicate. So it’s just so simple for me to pull a look directly from their Pinterest board into Morpholio Board.
Now, taking it up a notch: when I go to order things, I can pull the links right using the cut sheets in Morpholio Board. It’s soeasy for me to pull a cut sheet, print it off, and give it to someone so they know what to order. I love it!
